Triethyl Citrate occurs odorless, practically colorless transparent, oily liquid, soluble in most organic solvent, slightly soluble in oils. This product is innocuous plasticizer and use as a flavoring agent, solvent and vehicle and surface - active agent in foods in general.
Main Applications
I. Pharmaceuticals (Largest Application Area – Pharmaceutical Excipients)
Plasticizer for film coating of tablets: TEC is used in enteric coatings and sustained-release coatings to render the film flexible and crack‑resistant, while regulating drug release kinetics.
Plasticizer for hard/soft capsule shells: Modifies the flexibility of gelatin capsules, prevents brittleness and cracking, and optimizes disintegration time.
Solvent / co‑solvent: Dissolves poorly soluble active ingredients in oral liquids and topical preparations; also used in microspheres and drug delivery systems.

Carrier solvent and fixative for edible flavours: Commonly used in berry‑type flavours to stabilise aroma.
